Today I want to share with you my thoughts on one of the most anticipated books of the year: Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks. If you are a fan of romance novels, you probably know who Nicholas Sparks is. He is the author of best-selling books such as The Notebook, Dear John, and The Last Song, which have been adapted into successful movies. His latest book, Dreamland, was released on January 23, 2024, and I was lucky enough to get an advance copy from the publisher.
#1 New York Times bestselling author of The Wish follows with a stirring book about the risks taken to fulfil one’s dream-to find out whether it is possible, indeed, to put away not only silly dreams but also everything that brought you up.
Colby Mills once thought he was fated for a successful musical career; however, tragedy replaced his aspirations with reality. In spite of the fact that he is currently just heading a small family farm in Carolina, arbitrarily takes up an exhibit at St. Pete’s Beach, Florida and calls for some nominal break from responsibilities on his home stomping ground.
However, when he gazes into the eyes of Morgan Lee and sees his destiny staring back at him in a different outfit that brings about change to everyone who knows her, then after this meeting with one stranger, nothing will ever be the same again. Making Wells rethink whether what is written on some pages under an indifferent head shall govern his whole life or it can change dramatically depending only upon another pair.
Morgan is the daughter of wealthy doctors from Chicago who came out graduate class society after graduating college music program with desire to move in Nashville and be a star. The romantic and musical connection between her and Colby is unlike any she has known before; neither had ever experienced anything like this.
As they indulge in falling in love, Beverly goes through a completely different kind of heart rushing! Her harrowing journey involved fleeing her abusive husband with her six-year-old son and trying to make life possible for them in an obscure country town far off the beaten path. It is a quest for identity that sets Emily on an adventure, and with money running out and danger at every turn, she makes one desperate decision that will forever change her world.
What is this book about
Dreamland tells the story of Hope Anderson, a young woman who has been diagnosed with a rare and terminal brain disease. She decides to spend her last days in a secluded cabin in the mountains, where she hopes to find peace and closure. There, she meets Colby Thorne, a mysterious and handsome stranger who claims to be a writer.
Colby is also hiding a secret is that he is a lucid dreamer who can enter and manipulate other people’s dreams. He offers Hope a chance to escape her reality and experience her wildest fantasies in the dream world. As they grow closer, they fall in love and face the dilemma of choosing between reality and dreams.
Let me tell you what I thought of the book. I have to admit I had high expectations for this book, since I have enjoyed most of Nicholas Sparks’ previous works. However, I was a bit disappointed by Dreamland. Don’t get me wrong, the book is not bad, but it is not great also.
