I’m back with another review of a book that I loved. It is called So Lucky by O’Dawn Porter , and it’s a hilarious and heartwarming novel about three women who seem to have it all, but are secretly struggling with their own insecurities and challenges.
The book follows Ruby, Beth and Lauren, who are all connected in some way. Ruby is a successful social media influencer, but she has a secret condition that makes her feel like a fraud. Beth is a stay-at-home mom, but she suspects her husband is cheating on her with his glamorous assistant. Lauren is about to marry a handsome and wealthy man, but she cannot stand his controlling mother and his perfect ex-girlfriend.
As the story unfolds, we get to see how these women cope with their problems, and how they eventually find the courage to be themselves and embrace their flaws. The book is full of humour, drama, romance and friendship, and it is a great reminder that no one’s life is as perfect as it seems on the surface.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it made me laugh out loud, cry a little, and root for the characters. I also liked how the author tackled some sensitive topics, such as body image, mental health, infidelity and sexuality, with honesty and compassion. The book is very relatable and realistic, and many women will see themselves in Ruby, Beth or Lauren.
So Lucky is a book that celebrates women in all their shapes, sizes and situations. It is a book that shows that everyone has their own struggles and insecurities but that we can overcome them with the help of our friends and family. It is a book that makes you feel good about yourself and your life, no matter how messy or complicated it may be.
If you are looking for a fun, uplifting and empowering read, I highly recommend So Lucky by O’Dawn Porter . It is one of the best books I have read this year, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author.
My personal Reviews
“I did not read O’Dawn Porter earlier book, The Cows. So, I was new to her bold and insightful writing style. The book, So Lucky has a cute cover with a pink doughnut, but the story inside is not as light-hearted. It explores many serious topics, mainly focusing on the idea of feeling ‘lucky’. It questions if we can ever truly feel this way.
So Lucky examines life through a critical lens. It uses the stories of three women to explore the pressures of looks and appearances. Beth seems to have a perfect balance of work, motherhood, and marriage. Ruby is a woman who plans every detail of her life. Lauren appears to have an enviable life, but is it all just for show? O’Dawn Porter digs deeper into these characters’ lives.
Beth is unhappy because her relationship lacks closeness. Ruby always feels like she is losing. Lauren, who is instantly famous, knows that her social media life is not as perfect as it seems. As these women deal with their daily challenges, a big scandal is about to explode with shocking results.
I hqve mentioned before that I have been finding it hard to focus on reading. I used to read one book at a time and finish it before starting another. However, recently, I have been starting and stopping many books. My mind drifts and I forget what I have read.
So Lucky was different. It kept my attention from start to finish. Because of the cover, I thought it would be a light-hearted chic lit book, but it wasn’t. So Lucky is a great book dealing with a very important issue: self-doubt. I really liked it.”
