A few years back, I started a tradition of reading Halloween books aloud to my daughters during October. It is such a fun activity. This simple practice adds a touch of magic to our regular reading routine and makes October feel extra special.

Now, as an adult, I eagerly look forward to reading something entertaining during October. It is one of my favorite ways to embrace the holiday season.

It exudes a Gothic atmosphere and surprises you with unexpected twists. Vera Winter, a renowned novelist, has kept her true life story hidden until her impending death. She entrusts an unfamiliar young woman with the task of writing her authentic biography.

Years ago, I read this novel, and let me tell you, the reviews comparing it to Rebecca were spot-on. The story follows Linda, a young governess in her twenties, who heads to a French estate to care for a wealthy boy. However, things take a frightening turn, and you will feel like you are in a Gothic manor in the French countryside all from the comfort of your couch.

If you have been following me for a while, you know I adore good young adult books. Truly Devious is one such gem, it revolves around an unsolved kidnapping. Our protagonist, a teenage true-crime enthusiast and a new student, is determined to crack the case.

I HAVE gone through the entire four-book series on audio within a few weeks. It is an absolute blast.

Agatha Christie is a master of suspenseful mysteries, and this one is perhaps her most famous. Ten strangers gather at a deserted mansion, only to find themselves dying off one by one. Last year, we even watched a stage version of The Mousetrap, another of her books, during October. Now I am eager to read the book version.
