Twisted Games Summary & Book Review

Twisted Games Summary: Rhys Larsen possesses personal protection skills as a bodyguard, is taciturn, and is a man of principle. His unshakeable dedication to his work is rooted in two steadfast rules: His unshakeable commitment to his work is rooted in two steadfast rules:

  1. Unwavering Protection: This will not change any time soon, as he will do almost anything to protect his clients from harm and ensure their safety.
  2. Emotional Detachment: He does not allow himself to get involved in touching people’s lives emotionally while at work.

Rhys has been consistent with these rules, and his performance is marked by this strong and sullen image, which seems to keep him from developing any form of affection. Nevertheless, his determination is challenged by her appearance.

She Challenges His Resolve

This is a position where, for the first time, Rhys is provoked into crossing the unspoken rules he had put in place for himself. This mysterious lady has, in one way or another, found a way to penetrate this man’s heart, challenging his artificial walls of affection. But pull he does, and though his rational mind tells him to stay away from Rosalyn, the emotions he has for her are too strong.

Because That Is How He Takes Her

Regulating his feelings, he reminds himself of the rules, yet he bars and chooses to take her, knowing fully that she is his patient and hooking up with her may cost him everything he ever valued. This makes them go to a risky area that threatens Rhys’s resolve, his feelings, and the essence of who he is.

Bridget von Ascheberg, the princess, is full of spirit. Her obstinacy is as firm as Rhys’s stubbornness. There is far more to her than a calm and composed demeanour; she represents fire, the potential to reduce all of the barriers within Rhys’s armour to ashes. She is the complete opposite of the stereotype, and suddenly, all his conceptualizations about her are proven wrong, and an intense passion rises from him.

A Slow-Burning Surrender

But day by day, Bridget begins to erode Rhys’s tough exterior, and slowly, then and there, he starts overcoming the barrier he has around his heart. She never lets up and never loses focus, and hence, slowly and steadily, she gets to his weak point, which he has all this while been keen on hiding.

A Forbidden Attraction

Rhys is confronted with a jarring realization: Instead of a soldier’s oath to protect Bridget, he lusts for her and wants to make her his in every sense of the word. His every waking moment is preoccupied with wanting to destroy her, to possess her, to claim her. She is now the object of his desire, the woman he cannot have, the one whom he fantasizes as the sinful woman he wants to grab by the throat and rape.

A Princess Who Calls Out the Worst in Him

Bridget has provoked all kinds of feelings in Rhys and woken him to the sick soul he carries within him. She can be his princess, every conscious thought and every sexual dream. The distinctions between protection and possession become increasingly faded, forcing Rhys to face the inner evil and the nature of his affection inspired by Bridget.

Princess Bridget: The Tailor’s Tremendous Life of Royal Restriction

His majesty’s daughter, Princess Bridget, is a strong-willed, beautiful, and proud lady who is oppressed by the duties inherent to her status. She wants to escape the role she is expected to play, get married, and love in her own way.

However, her dreams are shattered when her brother’s sudden abdication thrusts her into a role she never desired: He took the throne at a time when he and the kingdom’s people would be subjected to numerous activities and the pressures coming with them, challenges could also come in many forms, ranging from military campaigns and hunting expeditions to marital relations and other social interactions, with the pressures linked to these activities at the time being enormous.

A Loveless Fate Awaits

After that, Bridget has only one chance for happiness, the happiness of a sexless marriage forced on her for political reasons. As she navigates the treacherous landscape of her new position, she must also conceal her forbidden desire for the one off-limits man: her friend, her lover, her defender and the only person who would beat her to a pulp, practically and figuratively.

MY THOUGHTS:

I love this book! I’d re-read it forever if I could. Royal love stories are my weakness, and this one exceeded expectations. Ana Huang nails adult romances every time. Rhys Larsen and Bridget’s chemistry is everything. I rooted for them from start to finish. Rhys’s tough exterior softening for Bridget was swoon-worthy, and their vacation scene had me screaming internally: Bridget is the ultimate queen. I pictured her as Adelaide Kane from Reign, and it fit perfectly. This book was romantic, spicy, and unique. I can’t wait to dive into Twisted Hate next.
