Review

First released in 2014 the Ugly Love was the highest selling fiction book in Australia due to its large fan base on the social media. Despite the pile of books reviews to read, I could not resist my curiosity of why the book Ugly Love was so popular and I bought it. This story is emotionally intense from the opening up to the end that makes its own legacy as the modern romance.

Among the most significant books by Colleen Hoover, Ugly Love is a story of Tate falling for Miles, a man who is injured and also a mute. However, Miles is being tortured by inner conflicts and can only offer Tate a physical relationship. He is emotionally very removed and does not want to discuss his future. Miles is in the state of a personal crisis haunted by a past that he tries to keep away from Tate. The closer Tate and Miles become, the more their feelings grow. The question arises: Are they able to follow the rules and keep the relationship casual?

This year one of the most remarkable adventures for me, is exploring the work of Colleen Hoover. After reading five books of Colleen Hoover, I became quite skeptical about the buzz on my Instagram feed. However, after being soaked in the fascinating story of Ugly Love and knowing many other books of the CoHo army, I have finally become a great fan of CoHo and global literary movement.

Weighty themes and triggers are discussed in the Ugly Love, therefore a safety warning for the future readers is required. While the subject matter is treated with respect, recognizing that it could be disturbing, I thought the narrative behind it was truly very gripping. Colleen Hoover skillfully guides the development of the story and the love relationship, largely due to her captivating style of writing. The switching narration in particular, the past storyline about the male protagonist Miles spoke a lot to me. It became clear that Hoover was masterfully working up to a deep revelation about why Miles is emotionally very damaged. When the climactic revelation unfolded, I was left totally dumbfounded the plot took an unanticipated and really shocking turn. Among all the ups and downs of the emotional ride, the story finds its equilibrium in the passionate scenes between Tate and Miles which make the story more intense. It is hardly doubtful that Ugly Love is a very heavy book, especially with the regard to the hotness of its content.

It was almost impossible to tear my eyes away from the Ugly Love and it really deserve all the positive comments it has received.
