People who listen to best audiobooks 2023 are part of a unique group. It is like we have our own secret, similar to Fight Club.
The main rule is to refrain from talking about audiobooks. If you do, people who prefer traditional reading will always have something to say.
I understand where they are coming from because I used to feel the same way. However, after experiencing an amazing audiobook, I changed my mind and have not looked back since.
Now, I start a new audiobook at least once a month. I listen to them at night in bed, which is a nice way to rest my eyes after looking at a computer screen all day. I also listen while I’m traveling to work, on long plane trips, or just anytime. Audiobooks just make everything more fun.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman.
Taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, the novel revolves around Eleanor Oliphant, a character grappling with the challenges of alcoholism, solitude, and a troubled history, as she embarks on a path of profound change.
It was my introduction to the best audiobooks 2023 and has since become a standout favorite, igniting my passion for the format.
An exceptional audiobook elevates the reading experience, and Cathleen McCarron’s rendition is incredibly impactful. With the story delivered in a rich Scottish brogue, Eleanor’s voice seems to rise directly from the text.
How to Murder Your Life: A Memoir by Cat Marnell.
Cat Marnell had it all. She worked as the beauty editor for a New York City magazine, and her life seemed glamorous from the outside. However, due to trauma, mental health challenges, and addiction, she ended up ruining her own life.
This book is like a guide on how to completely wreck your career.
I have a soft spot for messy memoirs, and Cat’s is one of the messiest. There is something powerful about hearing a memoir in the author’s own voice. When Cat reads, she is lively, animated, and even hilarious (sometimes she screams and yells). It is a necessary break from the darker moments explored in the book.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt.
This highly praised book takes place in New England at the small and elite Hampden College. Here, the new student Richard joins a special class that’s open to only a few students.
The book is a perfect escape, filled with murder, mystery, and lots of surprises.
Listening to Donna narrate her book is like being taken to another place. At first, I did not believe it was her because she sounded like a trained narrator. Her neutral voice, the pureness it brings, and her Southern accent really make the story come alive.
A heads-up: this audiobook is long, lasting 22 hours.
It seems like a lot, but it does not feel that way. It is best for a long plane ride or to enjoy during a vacation. I played it during a family trip with many drives through the countryside of Victoria. It was perfect for the journey, as I felt like I was at Hampden College during each drive. I just had to keep listening.
The Woman in Me by Britney Spears.
Britney Spears’s autobiography, The Woman in Me, is a significant work. In it, she shares her journey from pop stardom to her relationship with Justin Timberlake, as well as her experience with a controversial conservatorship.
Whether you read the book or listen to the audiobook, it is a compelling story. The audiobook, narrated by Michelle Williams, adds an extra layer of emotion to Britney’s powerful narrative. Williams’s clear and calming voice brings serenity to the intense moments in the book, making it an enthralling experience.
